Oh... So Modern!!

Lise is on a mission to quilt up tops that she's been working on for a few years. She has booked time on Lolah to quilt them all! How cool is that?

This one is extra special! When she first started quilting on Lolah, we discussed some of her quilts and from that discussion, I purchased a few special pantographs. The one she chose for this quilt is one of those.

It's called Seaside... a 14" panto by Kathie James and sold by Willow Leaf. Lolah having an 18" throat means she can quilt up to 14in... that means this panto would have to be adjusted. Lise was up to the challenge of making it work!

She chose Graphite Glide by Filtec and 80/20 batting for her 92x95 quilt. It proved a great combination.

Rachel and Muriel dropped by the shop and started chatting with Lise... turns out they're related!

A great pattern...

and some steady work...

Quilts of this size require some help to get it done...

This is one project that also requires a little filling in with free hand work. You wouldn't want a half pattern at the edges so we planned our rows accordingly filling in at the end with some free-motion quilting.

What a beauty!!! I bet it will look great on any bed!!

 A great finish!!!

You have a right to be proud Lise!! It's stunning!

Always awesome...

Quilting for a Cause!

Marie belongs to several quilting circles and one of them is the Fabric Cupboard's BOM Pinwheel group. Their 2013 pattern was a Churn Dash in solids. If you knew Marie, you'd know this was outside her comfort zone! She is all about color and pattern, except green. So when she brought this top in, I was very surprised. I LOVE solids and this one is particularly lovely!

She wanted to quilt it on Lolah instead of hand quilting it and decided to try a different pattern than her usual. She chose Zephyr pantograph designed by Hermione Agee for Lorien Quilting. 100% polyester batt completed the sandwich with a solid backing.

Imagine Filtec's Glide thread in Celery for the top and Linen color for the bobbin thread. It made for a great combination.

Marie feels more comfortable quilting patterns with shorter "stretches"... achieving smooth long lines can be difficult for beginners.

Such intense concentration...

I believe Marie was quite successful in getting those beautiful curls.

A very interesting mix of colors...

Well done... great flow...

It's beautiful Marie!!

Front and back...

Marie has donated this quilt to "Un Phare Dans La Nuit" a group dedicated to raising funds for Mental Health. Tickets will go on sale soon!

I'm slowly catching up with the blog posts... We're into February's now... this is what it looked like...

Just a reminder of some of our snowstorms... we are done with these... bring on SPRING!!

Some days, getting to the barn was a bit of a challenge! BUT we survived another winter of record snowfall!

Simply Imagine...

When Hollie decides to quilt on Lolah, she comes armed with a bundle of quilt tops. She makes quilts to sell at Keepsake Crafts in Murray Corner when the shop opens for the tourist season.

All three quilts started with the same panel but each was done a little differently. The batik backing was purchased at the Bargain Fabric Outlet in North Bedeque while on a road trip to the island. It did not come cheap but it was a wide backing.

This was Hollie's first time using a pantograph for her quilts. She wasn't too sure she would like it and was worried about the experience... dreaming about it too.

You can see in the photo above that two quilts are loaded close together and the pantograph was worked across both. It requires someone on each side of the quilting bed: one to quilt the panto and one to "spot" making sure the foot doesn't slide under the quilt top as it hops from one to the other.

Tea berry Glide which is a pale mauve/pink has been a very popular thread color and one of Hollie's favorites.

Her husband Micheal came in to check on her progress and was even given a chance to try out Lolah! He did an excellent job!

Micheal is a contractor so he has experience guiding hand tools.

This pantograph is called Hearts in Bloom... it's been quite popular because of the easy design and the open quilting. This fabric has the same flowers in it.

Once the panto work was done, Hollie decided the third quilt would be done freehand.

This is where Hollie is most comfortable...

She even wrote in the "blank" blocks...

What a sharp eye she has for transforming a simple panel into a wonderful keepsake quilt!! I absolutely love the log cabin setting.

Gorgeous backing...

Hollie you amaze us all! Can't wait to see your next three quilts...

Simply Imagine what YOU can do on Lolah!!! Call us and book your date!

UPDATE: April 9th, 2015

Hollie reminded me yesterday that I forgot to include an important photograph because the photo was taken with my phone.

Blair is a good friend of Hollie and Micheal and our contractor who happened to come in while Hollie was working so she asked him to quilt on her top...

Blair has been known to mark his wife Sally's tops for hand quilting. He is skilled at hand tools so it was no surprise that he did well. Sorry the Lolah's light is too bright to see what he quilted!

Thank you for the reminder Hollie!
