Simply Imagine...

When Hollie decides to quilt on Lolah, she comes armed with a bundle of quilt tops. She makes quilts to sell at Keepsake Crafts in Murray Corner when the shop opens for the tourist season.

All three quilts started with the same panel but each was done a little differently. The batik backing was purchased at the Bargain Fabric Outlet in North Bedeque while on a road trip to the island. It did not come cheap but it was a wide backing.

This was Hollie's first time using a pantograph for her quilts. She wasn't too sure she would like it and was worried about the experience... dreaming about it too.

You can see in the photo above that two quilts are loaded close together and the pantograph was worked across both. It requires someone on each side of the quilting bed: one to quilt the panto and one to "spot" making sure the foot doesn't slide under the quilt top as it hops from one to the other.

Tea berry Glide which is a pale mauve/pink has been a very popular thread color and one of Hollie's favorites.

Her husband Micheal came in to check on her progress and was even given a chance to try out Lolah! He did an excellent job!

Micheal is a contractor so he has experience guiding hand tools.

This pantograph is called Hearts in Bloom... it's been quite popular because of the easy design and the open quilting. This fabric has the same flowers in it.

Once the panto work was done, Hollie decided the third quilt would be done freehand.

This is where Hollie is most comfortable...

She even wrote in the "blank" blocks...

What a sharp eye she has for transforming a simple panel into a wonderful keepsake quilt!! I absolutely love the log cabin setting.

Gorgeous backing...

Hollie you amaze us all! Can't wait to see your next three quilts...

Simply Imagine what YOU can do on Lolah!!! Call us and book your date!

Lorette

UPDATE: April 9th, 2015

Hollie reminded me yesterday that I forgot to include an important photograph because the photo was taken with my phone.

Blair is a good friend of Hollie and Micheal and our contractor who happened to come in while Hollie was working so she asked him to quilt on her top...

Blair has been known to mark his wife Sally's tops for hand quilting. He is skilled at hand tools so it was no surprise that he did well. Sorry the Lolah's light is too bright to see what he quilted!

Thank you for the reminder Hollie!

Falling back!

Carol's trip to Spruce It Up was made with joyful anticipation but at the same time, with a good deal of apprehension... butterflies were mentioned... but OH! Look at this gorgeous quilt. Stonehenge, batiks, and some glitter... so pretty. It's expertly pieced too, making quilting an easy job.

She chose Vanilla Cream pantograph by Anne Bright with Superior Threads King Tut Variegated #906, a beautiful mix of oranges, greens, browns, yellows. That's Carol in the center between Holly on the left and Bernice who came to offer support.

Quilting on Lolah though is Joan! Why, do you ask? Carol had some shopping to do... she did manage to quilt several rows of the design but she was willing to let others also get the chance to try out Lolah! What a great friend!

Holly even gave it a go while Carol sipped her coffee... :)

There she is... working the last row and the finishing touches!

What a gorgeous quilt Carol! A great job collaborating on the quilting ladies. It's a beauty and I'm sure the recipient will be thrilled to get it!

The stitching on the back is hardly noticeable but the texture is quite lovely!

There's something about fall colors that warms my heart and these are so pretty... Doesn't it look cozy?

Carol I hope your butterflies are gone now. Your two-toned binding will look awesome.

Lolah is loving all this attention girls... come back soon!

Lorette

Batik Beauty!

Nannette's careful collection of batiks took her 2 years and then she logged many long hours of sewing to create this beauty.

The fabrics used in each star "color family" were used twice, reversing the colors in the second star. It made the colors dance across the quilt.

Her careful color placement of the sashing strips enhanced the design.

Look what I spied... these snowmen faces are too cute!

LOVE these swirly fabrics!

She chose Vanilla Cream pantograph by Anne Bright as she wanted swirls to complement the swirls in the fabrics. The thread is FilTec Warm Grey 4 which is a lovely bone color.

Her mother came to watch her quilt and when not doing that, she knitted stockings and caught up on her book club reading.

What a beauty Nannette... it's gorgeous and you did a fabulous job quilting it.

The batik back is very pretty...

It will be beautiful on that handmade bed!

Toodles,

Lorette
