Lunch Box WIP

My WIP for today is a roomy lunch box; this was a "commission" that I've had for some time and today I got ready for some sewing time.

Not much has been happening in the sewing room; we've been away visiting with my sisters and spending some time with my mother who is in a nursing home. I believe she recognized me and before long she said my name! Always heartwarming to hear her voice, see her in person, and listen to her chatter even though nothing makes much sense. Dementia is no laughing matter.

Wednesday evening we'll be at the Gordon Lightfoot concert. A long time ago, we had tickets to see him in Ottawa but one of the younger children was sick so I stayed home and DH took no1 son (who was perhaps 12) with him; needless to say our son was not impressed! It just wasn't his music. :)

I'm linking with the Needle and Thread Network and Let's Bee Social.

Toodles,

Lorette

  1. I am so glad your Mom recognized you! The last time I saw my Mom she held her arms up to me and I like to think she knew who I was! Dementia is very hard... and who knows perhaps your son now secretly listens to the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and remembers time spent with his dad!

    1. I'm thrilled that Mom still recognizes me especially since we lived so far and could only visit twice a year. Dementia is worse for the family members... she's happy where she is. No1 son probably likes the music today but he'll never tell.

  2. Ooooh, can hardly wait to see how that turns out with such cute fabrics! Sorry about your mother. That's very tough on the family members. N°1 Son will definitely not tell you he liked it but probably seriously enjoyed being with his dad all the same.

    1. Thank you Elita. I know my son would have rather stayed home to play video games. One good thing about the concert is that the music wasn't so loud that it made you deaf! Musicians had to play at a lower volume so they didn't drown him out! alas, we could hardly understand the words to the songs... his voice is not that powerful anymore and it looks like he has to make considerable effort to sing! :)

    1. Hi Lorna, Plans change here as soon as I hit the store! HAHAHA! I happened to need a few supplies and found some alternatives to my lunch box materials. I will blog about it when I have it done! See my reply to Elita regarding the concert...

    1. Thank you MR! My daughter-in-law is from Indonesia; the fabric is so appropriate for her lunch box! She's all about bento-boxed-lunches and this is roomy enough for her.

  6. I have a sister-in-law who ended up in a nursing home, last year, with both Alzheimer's and dementia. She's 56. She no longer knows her family. It's a hateful disease. On to better thoughts, the fabric for the lunch bag is simply adorable.

    1. So sad to hear of your sister-in-law's plight Jo. 56 is too young to be afflicted with such a condition.
